§ 01What an independent broker actually does
A broker is not a carrier. Frankie does not underwrite anything and does not sell one company's plans. He looks at what is available to your household in your county, puts the plans side by side, and explains the tradeoffs in plain language. You decide. Nothing on this page is a quote, and no plan is confirmed until the carrier approves the application.
The part people underestimate is continuity. The same person picks up the phone next year, already knowing which doctors you needed in network and which prescription mattered most.

- Network. Whether your doctors and your hospital are actually in the plan, checked before you enroll rather than after.
- Drug coverage. Whether your prescriptions sit on the plan's formulary and what tier they land on.
- Out of pocket structure. Deductible, coinsurance, copays and the annual maximum, not just the monthly premium.
- Referral rules. Whether the plan is an HMO, an EPO or a PPO, and what that means for seeing a specialist.
- Subsidy eligibility. What your estimated household income means for advance premium tax credits.
